Illumination Foundation 2011 Program Milestones
Interim Supportive Shelter Program Completes First Year
The Interim Supportive Shelter Program took families from the cold-weather emergency shelters last winter, and gave them six months of housing and services designed to effectively transition them into permanent housing. This month the last clients in the group finished ISS, joining the 63 families that have exited the program to successful housing arrangements.
Orange County Funders Roundtable members provided funding for the Interim Support Shelter Program. This funding enabled us to provide homeless families with housing and on-site services including: case management, medical services, mental health counseling, job training, financial literacy, tutoring and life skills. The winter armories and ISS are now closed for the season. They will re-open in December 2011.
Your support for the Illumination Foundation has funded innovative solutions to the homeless crisis that will benefit the community for generations to come.
Interim Supportive Shelter Program (ISS)
- Last winter, the ISS Program, which takes in families from the County's Winter Armory, was able to serve 120 families, consisting of 166 adults and 201 children.
- In just the past seven weeks of this winter's program, we've served 87 families, consisting of 129 adults and 181 children.
- The ISS Program is serving 55% more people than we were at this time last year, due to the extraordinary demand for emergency housing in this difficult economy. We hope to transition as many as possible into stable housing.
