HOMELESS WOMEN AND THE ILLUMINATION FOUNDATION
The fastest growing group of homeless people in the United States is composed of single women with two or three children. Homeless women are rarely seen, because they often find shelter with relatives, friends, or other women. The majority of these women are on the streets because of divorce or escaping domestic violence. 35 to 43% of homeless mothers were physically or sexually abused as children. Diverse emotional and mental health issues contribute to homelessness for women and remain a barrier to them achieving independence if left untreated. Specifically related to women, a fundamental Illumination Foundation program goal is to teach women and their children the essential life skills needed to identify, address and overcome their emotional problems to aid in their journey towards self-sufficiency.
All proceeds of the event benefit the Illumination Foundation
